FEATURE ARTICLE - 5 Simple Steps To Accepting Online Payments

When you’re selling things, you need people to be able to pay
you. Sure, they could send you cheques in the post, but that’s
not really convenient or scalable, is it? No, to do business on
the web, you need to be able to accept card payments
electronically – and, luckily for you, it’s never been easier.
Here’s the whole process, in five simple steps.
Step 1: Choose a Payment Service.
While you could get a merchant account and do your own card
processing, it isn’t usually worth it, unless you do an awful
lot of transactions. For most business, third-party payment
services are a better solution, and there are lots of services
out there that let you accept card payments for a small fee.
When you choose a payment service, then, the main things you
want to consider are the prices, and whether your customers will
trust it. You used to need to consider which services your
customers would have accounts with, but as most services now let
you accept payments from people who don’t have accounts with
them that’s not much of an issue any more.
Right now, the biggest general payment player is PayPal, and
they’re worth considering first, but you should be aware that
many businesses have had issues with PayPal freezing their
accounts and being slow to respond (see www.nopaypal.com for
more). StormPay (www.stormpay.com) is a decent general-purpose
PayPal alternative, and useful to keep around as a backup. You
might also like to check out more specific services, such as
AuctionCheckout (if you’re taking payments for auction items)
or ClickBank (non-physical products only, popular for ebook
sales).
Step 2: Create an Account.
The next step is to create an account at your chosen online
payment provider. This will require you to give out either your
personal name and address or a business name and address.
Depending on who you’re registering with, you may also need to
give out credit card or bank details. It almost goes without
saying that you shouldn’t give these details out to anyone
you’re not sure of – be suspicious of payment services that
you’ve found with a search but never actually seen in use.
Step 3: Get Verified.
Before you can receive any significant amount of money, most
payment providers require you to become ‘verified’ – this is
usually nothing more than the minimum they need to do to comply
with the law. If you haven’t been asked for your bank and
credit card details already, you will be at this point, and some
services will even ask you to fax them a photocopy of your
physical card, to prove you’re the real cardholder. Some
services will even cross-reference your phone number with your
address and then phone you up to make sure it really was you.
Don’t be too disturbed by all this: it’s all in the name of
security, and you’re not doing anything bad (or at least I hope
you’re not!).
Step 4: Add the Payment Button to Your Pages.
When it comes time to actually start accepting customers’ money
through the service, all you’ll need to do in most cases is add
some kind of button or image of a button to your sales page that
says ‘Pay Now’. The payment service will usually provide the
HTML for this, and a few tutorials to explain things like ways
to make sure that the correct amount shows up on the payment
page.
Step 5: Withdraw Often.
Whenever you’re dealing with electronic payments, the final
step is to withdraw every time you get an amount of money you
consider significant, and an absolute minimum of once per week.
There are all sorts of reasons for this, but the biggest one is
that online payment services aren’t anywhere near as strictly
regulated as other financial institutions, and aren’t under
that much of an obligation to give it to you in any timely
manner. You should consider any money left with them to be at
risk until it’s securely in your bank account. Besides, you
don’t want your money sitting there earning interest for them
instead of you, do you?
So, there you have it, 5 Simple steps to accepting payments

Many small businesses rely on third party processors or merchant
account providers to accept credit cards on the Web. But how do
you know who is the best processor for your business?
Clickbank
For a long time Clickbank was one of the most popular third party
processors on the Web. In order to sign up with Clickbank you
have to set up your Website to accept payments following their
guidelines. You will for example have to state that Clickbank is
responsible for processing payments. It usually takes up to three
business days to verify that a site is ready to accept payments via
Clickbank. Once this is achieved you can start accepting credit
card payments. Fortunately Clickbank offers low fees and an
affordable service for most people. Some people have complained
however that they have lost business because the company has
refused valid credit cards.
2Checkout
Another choice is 2Checkout. This company usually requires less
than 24 hours to set up payment processing. 2Checkout also
processes credit card payment for a low fee. The company doesn’t
provide you however with built in affiliate software. This means if you
have affiliates you can’t sign them up for service on the spot, they will
have to sign up and pay an activation fee.
Paypal
You can also try Paypal. Many online merchants prefer Paypal because
it accepts US and non-US businesses. Paypal is easy to sign up for.
It allows customers to pay using multiple credit cards. Paypal does
charge a slightly higher fee than other merchants. Paypal also provides
you a shopping cart you can place directly on your website.

Private Label Content (PLR) has been a hot topic in online
business over the last couple of years. As more opportunities
have emerged for people to make money with niche marketing,
so has the demand for affordable content.
PLR is the perfect solution!
If you’re not familiar with how PLR works, it is essentially a way
for multiple people to “share” content. Since they are all given
access to use or change the content, they pay significantly less.
You can then use that PLR as is and put your name on it as the
author. Or you can divide it up, add to it, combine it with other
content, create an audio product from it… the sky’s the limit!
The more creative you are, the more unique your resulting
product will be.
For online marketers, this can mean a savings of countless
hours of work over writing all of their content themselves. Or
thousands of dollars in outsourcing fees if they were to hire a
professional writer.
But before you get started using PLR to grow your business,
there are a few things that you need to keep in mind:
1. It’s important that you trust the source of the PLR
content – Not all PLR content is created equal. There are lots
of people publishing inferior content that no marketer in their
right mind would use.
Remember, once you put your name on the content, your
potential customers think that you wrote it. If it’s not well written,
informative and interesting you’ll make a bad impression. Even
if you’re just using the content on your website to improve search
engine rankings, it has to be good quality because prospects will
be reading it and judging you based on it.
2. The best use for PLR is not article site submissions –
Submitting articles to article directories can be a great promotion
strategy. And in the early days of PLR that is primarily how people
used the content. But the article directories have gotten smarter
and realized that multiple people are submitting the exact same
articles. This makes the directory look bad – so they’ve tightened
up their policies and no longer allow this.
But that’s alright, because that’s probably the worst use of PLR
content. It just makes you look bad if you’re publishing the exact
same article as someone else. Instead, smart marketers are using
PLR content to create their own unique products. Customers are
less likely to notice any overlap in the information if you do this well.
3. Combining PLR is the easiest way to use it – If you use a
piece of PLR content exactly as is, the odds are that you’ll be competing
directly with someone else who is offering the same product. However,
if you add other pieces of PLR content then you can create something
that is uniquely yours. You still don’t have to do any writing, yet you
have a product with different information then your competitors are offering.
PLR content truly is a great way to get the content you need for your
business. It’s affordable, easily accessible and flexible. Whether you
need content for your blog or want to create a complete product line,
PLR is the perfect choice!

What is a PLR product? PLR stands for private label rights. So a
PLR product is one that comes with private label rights. What are
private label rights? Private label rights allow you to take the source
file (usually a text file or Word file) and edit it, put your name on it,
and sell it as your own. You can do just about anything with PLR
products. You can resell the product as a PLR product. You can
change it some and sell it as your own. You can leave it as it is
and sell it as your own (not recommended). You can package
together several PLR products and sell them to other marketers.
Perhaps you have seen the countless PLR products available online,
and you have wondered how you too can make money with them.
If you have been on any of my lists for very long, you have probably
seen a few of my own PLR product offerings. Perhaps you have
purchased a PLR product from me.
I will tell you this: I have made money on every PLR offering I have
ever done. Some more than others.
I have made money when I have simply passed the PLR product
on to you. I have made money when I have gone in to the PLR
product, edited it to be a better product, and put another name on
it. I have made money when I have packaged several PLR products
together and sold them to you so that you can offer the PLR products
to your list.
The bottom line is, I have made money, and you can too.
Why do I want to share this information with you?
Because I am greedy. You see, I know that if you see how you can
make money with PLR products, that you will buy some PLR products.
Now, I realize that there are many PLR vendors online. You can buy
your PLR products from whomever you wish.
But my hope is that by teaching you to make money on PLR products,
you will buy PLR products regularly, and I hope you will buy them from
me. That’s it. I simply want you to buy them from me. But if you don’t,
no hard feelings!
